ACTION MAN: Peter Jones still enjoys a challenge - even though he's 70 years old

Peter Jones should be putting his feet up and enjoying life …after all, he is 70

Instead, the workaholic grandpa is preparing to take on rivals around the globe by ploughing £250,000 into a new company.

Mr Jones, a former chief executive of a Bloxwich engineering firm, spent five years designing and developing new lighting products. The products have been successfully tested for up to two hours at Warrington Fire Research Centre in temperatures of 1,000 degrees Centigrade.

The new business, FL

Patents, of Redditch, now employs eight part-time consultants to work on global orders for the construction, building material and distributor markets.

Mr Jones said the venture was born following a chance remark from a business contact urging him to take on a foreign manufacturer. "It was a challenge I couldn't resist. I believe Britain is home to high-quality, cutting edge innovation."

FL Patents Snaplight and Staylight products have already received the stamp of approval from the National House Building Council.
